Agriculture is
very little developed, partly because of bad earth and climate conditions.
Fishing, which
is the main resource of the Island, involves a large activity as well concerning
the transformation industry of fishing products as the harbour works including
repair of the ships.
The Industry
employs 41% of the working population and includes 3 activities :
Fishing industry, electric energy produced by 2 thermic plants, public works.
A lot is being expected from the off shore drilling by Canadians (which started
in the end of year 2000).
Handicraft includes
fishing, construction and the service sector.
Tourism attracts
mainly people travelling for cultural reasons.
