Agriculture is the leading economic sector in Mayotte.
Exports are based on 3 products : the ylang-ylang, vanilla and cinnamon.

Fishing is the second leading activity.
Different fishing techniques are used. Species : Lobsters, sword-fishes, groupers, shrimps.

Handicraft is also an important sector. Small trade has taken up for a few years.

The building sector employs 15,3% of the working population.
Real-estate construction is one of the most important economic activities ( SIM - Société Immobilière de Mayotte ensures most of it ).

Tourism is developing.
